When did you decide to get into the business?
My career seemed outdated. I wanted an adventure, and interior design gave me the creative challenge. I found an interior design program in Florence, Italy I couldn’t pass up.
Tell us about your mentors.
My father is influential. He was an executive in a large company and always has useful ideas. He encourages me to advocate for myself and my team, and he taught me to think about how to be an asset to any organization. I will also be forever grateful to my mentor and career coach, Christie Artis. When I was ready for a change, she showed me how to dig deep.
What challenges have you overcome?
I was in my design program in Italy when Covid broke. Meanwhile, I wondered if I would be able to finish. Would I go home safely? Would I find work? I overcame these challenges by breaking down scary tasks into achievable steps and trusting myself.
What advice can you give to young women?
Spend time and practice learning how to present well. As a designer, you always present. You present your designs, your ideas, your process and yourself. Learn to read your audience and project yourself with confidence.
