FOX13 celebrates local interior designer, Carmeon Hamilton, winner of HGTV – FOX13 News Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Your home is where you relax, cook, entertain and create lasting memories.

Most of us want our home to feel welcoming, but we often struggle to find decor that suits our style and taste.

West Memphian Carmeon Hamilton said it’s all about color, comfort and a bit of greenery when designing a room.

For Black History Month, FOX13 brought us the winner of HGTV’s Next-Gen Interior Designer.

In a grueling six-week competition, the best and the brightest in design go head-to-head.

An industry where only 2% of interior designers are African American.

She beat out eight incredible art designers to recreate several unique spaces in Southern California.

She brought her own sense of fashion, color and m-town flair to the competition.

Carmeon Hamilton is HGTV’s new design star.

In fact, for 15 years Hamilton has honed his skills at creating comfort zones.

“I start my design process, whether I’m working for myself or redecorating my house, whether I’m working with a client, the first question I ask is how do I want this place to feel,” said Hamilton.

Living in Memphis, Hamilton said that in deciding to design her own home, she started with a clean slate. She incorporated rich colors, culture, and pieces to fit her budget.

“The designer can dictate where your items come from, regardless of your budget. If we go to Target, we can work on a Target budget. If you have the budget for customization, we can work on a custom budget,” Carmeon said.

She sees herself as a creative person by nature, energized by a city rich in history, art and cultural sites.

She said this community was the foundation of her success.

“Whether they’re contractors, painters, welders, or artists, investing my time in building those relationships with other Memphis residents has fueled the business that I’ve built and that has achieved so much recognition,” said Hamilton.

In fact, as the winner of HGTV’s Next Generation designer, Hamilton now has her own show called “Reno my Rental.”

As a designer, Carmeon is known for incorporating plants into a room as a personal touch.

As the host of a national design show tied to Memphis, Hamilton said when asked if she plans to relocate and take her talents elsewhere:

“There’s so much growth here and we haven’t even seen the culmination of what I know Memphis can be and I want to be part of that growth,” Hamilton said.

“Reno my Rental” airs Friday nights on Discovery Plus.
