Ruth Gyuse Architecture Design is a small architecture firm based in Brooklyn. We specialize in mid to high end residential construction in the NY Tristate area. We are a minority-led/female-owned start-up with a small, tight-knit staff. The office currently works in a combination of remote, in-office and on-site configurations and requires flexibility to work in all three working environments.
This is a great position for an enterprising individual who wants to help shape the interior design language of the company. The role leans towards a candidate who is passionate about furniture, fixtures and equipment and finds specification and sourcing enjoyable and not a chore! This position offers opportunities for mentorship, field experience and direct customer interaction.
Drafting and assisting with sets of drawings for residential and commercial construction. Assist in the preparation of grading drawings for Landmarks and the NYC Building Department. Assist with construction sketches during construction.
Drafting and development of drawings for carpentry, furniture and other aspects of bespoke architecture and interior design. An excellent knowledge of Autocad is required as well as a good eye to create legible and clear drawings. This is a key aspect of this position.
Research building codes, building systems and assist the project team in resolving issues during the drawing and construction phases.
Site visits before and during construction. Assist with photography, site documentation, measurement, taking meeting minutes and following up with contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers as it relates to construction administration. This is a key aspect of this position.
Assist with client presentation materials including 3D renderings, 2D design drawings, materials and idea boards. Ability to find previous images to articulate design concepts. Providing basic 3D modeling in-house is a key aspect of this position, as well as working with an off-site renderer for finished client presentations.
Provide project support including purchasing, PO management, tracking of receipts, returns and exchanges. This is a key aspect of this position.
Assist with furniture plans and layouts, sourcing and specification of fabrics, materials, finishes and furniture. Knowledge of NYC design sources is a plus. Comfort and ease in traveling to New York showrooms and ability to manage time well and provide multiple options for customers to consider. This is a key aspect of this position.
Assist in maintaining and updating the office document library. Manage and catalog material selections for each project, prepare material schedules, and file projects upon completion.
Assist the principal in direct interactions with the client, including presentations of materials and furniture. Daily interactions with customers for purchasing, scheduling and providing samples. This position requires a clear communicator with the ability to manage multiple projects and clients at the same time.
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in architecture or MA in interior design. A master’s degree is preferred
3 to 5 years minimum experience in an architecture or interior design firm. Previous summer internship experience will be considered
This position is full time at 40 hours per week plus overtime. The starting salary is $68,000 to $74,000, depending on experience.
Proficiency in Autocad, Sketchup, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Office Suite is required. Proficiency in Rhino and other 3D modeling software is a plus.
Writing expertise is required. Ability to draw by hand is a plus.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work on multiple projects at once and prioritize responsibilities.
Experience working on high-end residential projects in New York is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Clarity when writing emails and making calls.
Interest in or active pursuit of an architecture degree is a plus.
