Kitchen and bathroom trends for 2022 with Allison Jaffe Interior Design

Interior designer Allison Jaffe has joined Studio 512 to talk about what’s hot for 2022 in the world of kitchen and bathroom design. Allison’s company has been in business for 12 years and offers a full service design and development of home renovations, new builds and furnishings. Allison believes in cohesive design and connecting rooms together, whether the style is contemporary, traditional or somewhere in between.

“White kitchens are timeless! I recently worked on an all-white kitchen, except we put the pop of color in those lovely pink chairs in the seating area and in the rug. It gives a really serene feel and if customers get tired of the color pink, it’s easy to put chairs in different colors and get a whole new palette. This way you are not committed to a permanent feature of the kitchen.

“I also see pops of color or painted cabinets in all colors in shades of black, blue and green. I worked on a beautiful kitchen where we left the top cabinets white but made the cabinets in the down in a beautiful shade of blue…the client loves blue! It’s a great way to use color without overwhelming a space.

“Something popular we’re seeing right now is just painting or staining the kitchen island and/or doing a different countertop to create contrast. Speaking of countertops, quartz is always in style and we let’s see so many more patterns to replicate natural stone with the benefit of its durability.Quartzite is a natural material with a more subtle look than marble or granite, and it’s also growing in popularity.Because it’s so classic , people still use marble, but I would make sure you understand its specific delicate properties before installing it in a kitchen, such as staining and etching.

“If you’re looking to update your backsplash, you can have so much fun with tiles these days. There are so many shapes, patterns, colors. I’m sure the makers are having fun with all the fun design they can produce!I will say that a number of my clients choose to forego the tile and continue the countertop on the wall for a clean, cohesive look. It’s really for those who want to keep it simple.

“Bathrooms are a great place to inject some personality, if you feel shy about being bold in your kitchen. They are smaller and a defined space with a doorway. The powder bath is the place where I encourage my clients to make the boldest design choices, using really fun and unique wallpaper, painted cabinets or tiles You can change the bathroom counter into something completely different from the one in the kitchen or use the same to create a cohesive look.

“Bathrooms are a great space to use saturated colors or a really fun and unique wallpaper! It’s also more cost effective, while having a great visual impact. Tiling is also important in the bathroom, and it has come a long way the other day i saw a china with a tweed pattern i am currently finishing another bathroom where we are using mirror tiles on the walls for clients who dream of a full white marble bathroom and who are more price conscious, porcelain with a marble pattern is a great substitute and you get the same benefits.

If you are looking for a home refresh:

“When it comes to material selections, have fun! Collect idea books, which will help you start noticing your style.

“There are so many styles of kitchens, but one big tip is to take your time in terms of space planning, because the kitchen is the most utilitarian space in the house.

“Hire a designer, architect or certified kitchen designer to help you maximize or transform a kitchen that isn’t working as well as you would like. You won’t regret investing in a functional design!
