Property in London: Interior design expert shares clever hack to add £40,000 worth to your home

Homeowners looking to add value to their properties can spend huge amounts of money on extensions, conversions and redecoration, but there are much simpler ways that don’t need to break the bank. According to a home decor expert, you don’t have to spend a fortune to add substantial value to your home. A simple trick can do wonders and it’s something anyone can do.

A home staging expert recently revealed that just adding art to your home can boost its value by £40,000. And you would be wrong if you thought that buying art is just the pastime of the rich and famous. According to interiors expert Elaine Penhaul, you don’t have to be an expert or an art connoisseur.

While some landlords rent large pieces of abstract art to entice buyers, a similar impact can actually be achieved on a much smaller and, importantly, cheaper scale. In fact, opting for a selection of smaller prints and colorful paintings on a wall or empty space can do wonders for an interior space.

Hanging art in your home can increase its value

According to Elaine, artwork makes a huge difference in a space because it creates an emotional response. “It helps give homebuyers an immediate sense of homeliness and will help your home stand out,” she said.

She recommends hanging artwork in the hallway, to create impact as it’s the first thing potential buyers will see, although there are no set rules. Elaine also suggests creating a gallery wall with different colors and textures in places like the living room and a large room on a staircase or in the bedroom to make your home stand out.

The interior expert explained that art makes a home appealing and can project a certain lifestyle that viewers might want to achieve. It can also evoke happy memories and having pieces scattered around a home can be a boost to overall well-being. The average price of a house in the UK is currently £260,230. Therefore, the simple act of adding artwork could dramatically increase the value of your home.
