Smart Eye and OMNIVISION Announce Next Generation Automotive Interior Sensing Solution That Meets GSR and Euro NCAP Requirements

GOTHENBURG, Sweden and SANTA CLARA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Smart Eye AB, the global leader in AI interior sensing and Driver Monitoring System (DMS) software for the automotive industry, and OMNIVISION, a leading global developer of semiconductor solutions, including advanced digital imaging, analog and touch and display technology, today announced their combined solution for unparalleled accuracy in automotive interior detection. This solution will be demonstrated at AutoSens Brussels, from September 12 to 14, 2022.

The solution combines Smart Eye’s state-of-the-art algorithms for interior detection AI and OMNIVISION’s next-generation RGB-IR BSI Global Shutter (GS) sensor for Interior and Occupant Monitoring Systems (IMS). and WHO). It provides automotive OEMs with optimal interior detection functions that are fully compliant with General Safety Regulations (GSR) and Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) requirements.

OMNIVISION’s GS sensor has the smallest 2.2 micron pixel and the highest near-infrared (NIR) 940 nm sensitivity in its class. It offers state-of-the-art performance, enabling single-LED designs, instead of 2-4 LEDs, reducing power consumption, size and cost. Glare is also minimized with OMNIVISION’s revolutionary Nyxel® NIR technology, which uses new silicon semiconductor architectures and processes to achieve the world’s highest quantum efficiency for DMS of 36% at length 940nm invisible NIR light waveform, providing the clearest pilot images for use by AI software algorithms. Moreover, the small pixel and the a-CSPTM package further reduce the size of the camera module. Coupled with Smart Eye’s new and improved interior detection algorithms, it can provide a complete and seamless solution for automotive OEMs.

“Indoor sensing requires sensors that deliver premium performance in complex environments,” said Detlef Wilke, vice president of automotive solutions at Smart Eye. “As the next generation of cars are taken to higher levels of autonomy, the innovative interior sensing capabilities made possible by these advanced technologies will be in high demand among automotive OEMs. This long-standing partnership with OMNIVISION will positioned to meet the needs of the industry today and in the future.

“GSR and Euro NCAP regulations will place additional requirements on detection capabilities for IMS, DMS and OMS,” said Andy Hanvey, Director of Automotive Marketing at OMNIVISION. “The next-generation pixel meets these requirements and requires only one LED. Combined with Smart Eye’s state-of-the-art algorithm, this is a compelling solution for automotive OEMs.”

The joint solution will be presented on stand 28 during AutoSens Brussels from September 12 to 14, 2022, to schedule an appointment, contact: [email protected] For more information, contact your OMNIVISION sales representative:
